Since the revision to the standard in 1994, ISO 9001-2000 is now closely aligned with OHSAS 18001 and the Environmental Management system ISO 14001 : 2004.
The new ISO 9001-2000 standard is far removed from the BS EN 5750. With the new standard the procedure element (now called processes) can be described in a simple flow chart format. The standard is very flexible and far more 'user friendly' allieviating the previous paper-heavy system.
ISO 9001-2000 now has a focus towards customer satisfaction and health & safety rather than endless procedures and easily incorporates 'one off' jobs.
The new standard has more clearly defined requirements including:
- Better measurement of customer satisfaction
- Being able to demonstrate continual improvement
- An increased attention to the management and control of resources
